Men’s basketball beats Indiana State

Men’s basketball beats Indiana State

Fans have reasonably been upset after two consecutive 30-point losses in conference play. Wednesday, the Bradley men’s basketball team brought fans to their feet and excitement back to the Hilltop with a 68-60 win against Indiana State. “We seem to be understanding what it takes to get this thing turned around, and it makes you keep believing that it’s eventually going to happen, it’s just a matter of when,” coach Geno Ford said. “We did a good job, and guys are battling and fighting.” Sophomore [...]

Bradley baseball looks to start its season strong

Bradley baseball looks to start its season strong

A new season for the Bradley men’s baseball team is fast approaching. With the season opener against Virginia Tech looming, the players and coaches are all ready to get back on the diamond. “We’re all kind of sick of being inside right now, “said senior Rob Elliot. “We put in a lot of hard work this offseason. We’re excited to play another team instead of each other.” Elliot, who set a career high in home runs last year with four, said he thinks the team [...]

One-on-One: Which MLB team had the best offseason?

Angels This one is just too easy. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim won 86 games last season but fell five games shy of making the playoffs. One way to improve is to sign the best player in baseball in the offseason; Albert Pujols. After signing Pujols, who  averaged 42 home runs, 126 RBI’s and a .420 on-base percentage, I think it’s safe to say the Angels are the favorites to win the AL West and possibly the World Series. Not only did the Angels [...]

Manning shows he’s elite in the Super Bowl

Super Bowl XLVI is in the books with the New York Giants beating the New England Patriots 21-17 for the second time in five seasons. The game wasn’t a classic by anyone’s standards, but it was intriguing until the very last play. The rest of America agreed. The Super Bowl was the highest rated program in United States television history, though 64 percent still did not watch the game. Who knew 64 percent of Americans were communists? But I digress. The game was close throughout [...]

Braves win back-to-back games in MVC play

Braves win back-to-back games in MVC play

For the first time since the middle of December, the Bradley women’s basketball team put together back-to-back wins. The Braves beat Southern Illinois and Evansville, pushing their record to 13-10 and 4-7 in conference play. Last Saturday, Bradley beat the Salukis 66-50 despite sluggish offensive performances by both teams. The Braves shot a little over 30 percent from the field and held the Salukis to 2-for-17 shooting behind the 3-point arc. “We had good looks and we had nice shots,” coach Paula Buscher said. “But [...]

Gaul takes his talents to LA

Gaul takes his talents to LA

When Bryan Gaul was six years old, he told his mom that he wanted to be a professional soccer player. Gaul’s dream became a reality when he was selected in last month’s Major League Soccer supplemental draft. The 2011 MLS Cup Champion Los Angeles Galaxy used their first round pick to select the 6-foot-5 standout from Bradley. “It was a roller coaster of emotions,” Gaul said. “I woke up really early the day of the draft. They only had it on the Internet so you [...]

Bradley basketball team falls to Evansville 92-62

The Bradley men’s basketball team reached a new low Wednesday night in a loss to Evansville at Carver Arena. The Braves were ran off the floor by the visiting Purple Aces, losing 92-62 in a game that was never close. Bradley trailed 20-6 early in the game and 53-27 at halftime. Coach Geno Ford said the team was atrocious. “We were atrocious on both ends,” Ford said. “Evansville’s better than us. They destroyed us in the first game. But they’re not that much better than [...]

Tennis brings out the best rivalry in sports

Sports are defined by rivalries. Think to the great games of Magic and Bird. Barcelona and Real Madrid. Even Peyton Manning and Tom Brady. Rivalries make up the games that everyone remem- bers, and the true mark of every era. At a time where America is anxiously awaiting a boxing match that may never happen, everyone should be tuned into the great three-way battle in tennis. Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have won every major tournament except one since the middle of 2005. All [...]

Two Bradley students experience the Super Bowl

For the first time in Super Bowl history, the biggest event in American sports is in a state neighboring Illinois. Two Bradley students are taking advantage of this opportunity in a big way. Imagine getting to escort two-time Super Bowl champion Rodney Harrison around town or ordering infamous sports broadcaster Al Michaels’ lunch. This is reality for two senior sports com- munication majors, Josh Koebert and Zach Keesee. “Since we were on a time crunch [Harrison] said ‘you have to be my bad guy if [...]

Braves’ MVC struggles continue

Braves’ MVC struggles continue

With a new coach and new direction the Bradley men’s basketball team is once again struggling in Missouri Valley Conference play. After winning just four games in the conference a season ago, the Braves have just one win at the midway point of MVC play. Bradley will enter tomor- row night’s game on the road at Creighton with losses in 12 of its last 13 games. Tuesday the Braves suffered their ninth conference loss of the season in a 77-60 defeat on the road at [...]
