BSA runway filled with flashy attire

The clicking of heels and the clanging of jewelry is all one heard while waiting for the Black Student Alliance to put on its first fashion show Nov. 15 in Marty Theater.

“It was a free fashion show just to put on a production for our campus,” BSA public relations and social chair Danielle Peterson said.

The fashion show consisted of five scenes with three singers and a slam poem in-between.

The show began with a BSA member singing India Arie’s “Ready for Love” before Peterson took the stage to announce the opening of the show.

Casual attire consisted of jeans and a T-shirt for the boys and knee-high socks and high-waisted shorts for the girls.

“All of the clothes were provided by Fifth Avenue, Almighty and a brand called Mntl,” Peterson said.

When it was time for business casual attire, BSA put on a small skit offering advice on what to wear for an interview.

With the help of Fifth Avenue, which is located on Main Street, BSA showed different forms of business casual that strayed away from the traditional black pantsuit.

The women wore a combination of jumpers and blazers, but an outfit consisting of a white blazer, coral top and black skinny pants stood out the most.

As the show went on, the crowd became more and more boisterous, especially when the men hit the runway.

“I liked that each model could emit his or her own personality,” sophomore accounting major Julia Koukol said. “Also, it was cool that some models appeared as performers throughout the show.”

The show’s final scene was body paint. Members of BSA came out in all black with some being painted as animals and others as sugar skulls.

According to Peterson, the show was a success and was the first fashion show put on by the “new and revived” BSA. Besides fun for campus, the show acted as a springboard for the club since it has been dormant on the Hilltop.

“BSA has always been on Bradley’s campus, but it was inactive for a year so we brought it back with all sophomores,” Peterson said.
