‘Dodge Brawl’ makes first Peoria appearance

A national co-ed, double-elimination dodge ball tournament titled “Dodge Brawl” is making its debut in Peoria May 9 in the Peoria Civic Center Exhibit Halls. A total of 64 teams, consisting of six players per team, will compete against each other with all proceeds benefitting the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

According to the Peoria Civic Center website, Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure is one of the world’s largest and most successful education and fundraising events for breast cancer awareness. The Dodge Brawl event is paired with the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, which is happening May 9 as well.

In 2015, “Dodge Brawl” events will take place in more than a dozen U.S. cities. With approximately 5,000 individuals and more than 700 teams nationally, “Dodge Brawl” aims to award over $30,000 to charities across the country.

Joseph Gorman, a senior music business major and marketing intern at the Peoria Civic Center, talked about his role and where other Bradley University students can find out more about the event.

“I help the marketing team push out information to the public regarding Dodge Brawl,” Gorman said. Information about the tournament is posted around campus and in the Hilltop Happenings for Bradley students.

Registration is $108 for each team and those participating must be between the ages of 16-65 years old. Teams can sign up at the Peoria Civic Center Box Office, Ticketmaster.com or by phone at 1-800-745-3000. Only two spots are left for interested teams.

Doors for the event open at 10:30 a.m. with practice games beginning at 11 a.m. The official tournament is scheduled to begin at noon. The event is free for the public.
