Theta Xi fraternity members are of the attitude that when life gives you avocados, make coffee. The fraternity will be giving away free coffee outside Bradley Hall between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. every Wednesday and Friday throughout the month of February.

The coffee is provided by Three Avocados, a non-profit coffee company.

“Three Avocados provides clean drinking water and education to the people of Uganda,” recruitment chairman Clayton Darrow said. “It started as a Christian mission project, but the [Three Avocados] founders decided they needed to give back more when a widow gifted them everything she had: three avocados.”

Darrow, a junior construction major, said the coffee giveaway is part of Theta Xi’s spring recruitment.

“We’re trying to get our name out while also helping out a good cause,” Darrow said. “It’s a small startup company, so we figured it would be cool to get them some exposure and support while also getting ourselves exposure and support.”

President elect Max Rydell said the coffee giveaway is the first time Theta Xi has associated with Three Avocados, and they were referred to it by one of their national advisors.

“We were looking to do something different and something that would appeal to college students,” Rydell, a senior human resource management major, said. “We thought a nice warm cup of free coffee on a cold day would be great. I mean, who doesn’t like free stuff? Who doesn’t like coffee?”
