Men’s basketball loses two players

After spending only one full year on the Hilltop, men’s basketball players Jordan Swopshire and Stefan Zecevic have been granted their release from the team.

The freshman Swopshire averaged 1.3 points and 0.5 rebounds per game as a freshman while appearing in 26 out of the 32 games this past season. Swopshire will look to transfer to a four-year school.

“It’s hard to leave because everyone from the teachers, students and coaches were so good to me,” Swopshire said. “I’m looking for a situation where I can play more, and I wouldn’t want to leave Bradley for any other reason.”

Zecevic, another freshman, came to the team from Serbia and saw decreasing minutes after a preseason exhibition tournament in the Bahamas. He appeared in 22 during the season while averaging 0.5 points and 0.6 rebounds per game.

Coach Geno Ford said he understands and wishes them the best in their future.

“[Zecevic and Swopshire] are both great students and great kids and will go on and do great things,” Ford said. “But both left primarily because of playing time, and we wish them all the best and we’ll be rooting for them.”

With the departure of Swopshire and Zecevic and five graduating seniors, the Braves had four scholorships available for the spring signing period.

They used one of thos scholarships to sign junior college transfer  Kendahl Amerson.

Amerson was named a first-team all NJCAA All-American after averaging 17.5 points for Utah State University-College of Eastern Utah (USU-CEU) last year.

He also showed proficiency from behind the three-point line, making 33 percent of his shots behind the arc last year. He was even better inside, making half of the shots he attempted from inside the three-point line.

“Kendahl is a big-time shooter,” Ford said. “He had a really good year and was the best shooter on the team as a freshman.”

Amerson joins Tramique Southerland and Donte Thomas in the Braves’ 2014 class. Southerland was named an Honorable Mention NJCAA All-American last week.
