Braves land ESPN top 100 recruit

History was made on the Hilltop this past week as men’s basketball coach Geno Ford did something no other Bradley coach has done in the past three decades: sign a top 100 recruit.

On April 30, Bradley received the National Letter of Intent from four-star recruit Josh Cunningham.

Cunningham is no stranger to the Hilltop as he won two Illinois state titles with his high school team Morgan Park of Chicago.

In high school, Cunningham averaged 21.6 points and 14.5 rebounds per game.

Ford said he believes that Cunningham is the whole package and will bring not only basketball skills to Bradley but also a high level of integrity.

“We are so thrilled to have Josh coming to Bradley,” Ford said. “He is a very good player who had a lot of options at other high-level schools. But above all, he is a high-character person and a great kid to be around.”

With Cunningham, the Braves’ recruiting class now finishes off with six players coming to Bradley this summer. The incoming class includes high school player from Thornwood in South Holland, Ill., Donte Thomas and junior college transfers Tramique Sutherland, Kendahl Amerson and Jermaine Morgan.

In addition to the six 2014 recruits, Illinois transfer Mike Shaw also becomes eligible to play this season.

Ford said he is looking forward to getting the players down to Peoria and having the team start building chemistry.

“Along with Josh, we are just excited for everyone to finish off their respective years and start working out and meshing with the current group,” Ford said. “We are in the position to make some real noise next season, and now we need to put it all together.”
