Burns grabs top honor for Men’s golf, women win at home

Spring is becoming a season of firsts for Bradley golf, as the men’s and women’s teams have posted top individual and team finishes, in consecutive tournaments.
For Bradley men’s golf, senior Lyle Burns earned first place individually in his second straight outing. Burns finished in a five-way tie for the top spot at the Hoosier Invitational Sunday, April 3, and helped the Bradley men’s golf team tie for seventh in the field.

Burns scored a 142 at the Indiana University Golf Course to seal his fifth top-10 finish of the season, sharing first place individually with the Illinois State pair of Trent Wallace and Zach Burry, as well as with Indiana’s Jake Brown and Ohio’s Peyton White.

“I was most impressed with how I managed the tough course conditions and high winds this weekend,” Burns said. “Despite the tough conditions, I was able to play some of my best golf of the spring.”

For the rest of the team, junior Bobby Jacobs tied senior Garrett Cox for 36th with a score of 153 and freshman Drake Bushong tied for 43rd (154). Sophomore Matthew Specht tied for 59th at 159 to round out the scoring for the Braves at 602, which tied them for seventh place with Oakland.

For women’s golf, senior Danielle Lemek claimed her 10th first-place individual finish of her career as the women’s golf team separated themselves from the pack. They finished with a score of 614 overall at the Bradley Invitational to win their only home tournament.

Individually, the Braves had three golfers in the top five, and placed four in the top 10. Lemek comfortably finished with her score of 147 claiming the top spot individually by four strokes. Fellow senior Jenna Roadley followed in second at 151, while sophomores Ally Scaccia and Grace Henderson joined her teammates in the top 10 with scores of 157 and 159, respectively.

“We have won the last two events that we have played, so I think that it is a great way to move into the end of our season,” Roadley said. “It’s a great boost of confidence to know that we can play well especially with conference teams.”

The men will return to play April 10 and 11, hosting the Bradley Invitational at WeaverRidge Golf Club. The women will travel to Terre Haute, Indiana, for the Indiana State Invitational April 10 and 11 in the team’s final outing before the Missouri Valley Conference Championship April 17 to the 19.
