Football Sundays are lazy days

Rejoice, football fans. The number-one sport in America is back this week, and as a football fan myself, I couldn’t be happier. It all starts this Sunday as 13 games will be played, and for the next 22 weekends, football will overtake TV.

Ah yes, football Sundays. It’s the time of year when I set my alarm for 11:30 a.m. to wake up and make sure that I have at least 15 minutes to tinker with my fantasy lineup. I’ll make myself some food before kickoff at noon because I know that once the games have started, I’m not moving. I’m serious. I don’t leave my couch until the Sunday night game is over.

Some people may read this and think, “Wow, what a bum. Does he have a life?”

I like to think I usually do. But let’s be honest here, I definitely don’t on Sundays. At least I admit it, and I don’t feel bad about it, either. Football is the greatest sport in the world. All you need to do is look at the ratings the Super Bowl gets year after year after year. In the United States, when looking at the top 10 most viewed TV broadcasts ever, the Super Bowl holds nine of those top spots. The NFL basically owns Sunday, and it owns me.

I’m definitely not the only person who sits on his butt from noon to 11 p.m. watching football. There are thousands of other people who sink into the couch for every football Sunday. All of my roommates do it too. I fully expect all seven of us to be surrounding the TV with beers in our hands as we sit there and talk crap about each other’s fantasy teams.

Now, I know what most of you are going to say. If you have homework, you’re going to do it on Sundays. Who does homework on a Friday or Saturday? But homework is still not an excuse for you to stop watching football. We work hard all week, and  school is stressful. We need time to unwind.

What better way to let off the stress from the week than by watching 275-pound men trying to hit each other as hard as they can?

If you really need to do homework, try multitasking. It’s the 21st century; you should be able to do it by now. Write your paper with your laptop while you glance up every so often to see what’s going on in the game. It’s that simple.

So when this Sunday rolls around, don’t be afraid to be lazy and watch football all day. Sundays are meant for you to do nothing, anyway. Football is the sport of our generation and has become a way of life to some people. Plus, I’m hoping more people do this so I don’t feel as worthless.
