Bradley tennis winless in MVC tourney

Following dismal seasons for both teams, the men’s and women’s tennis teams ended their seasons with losses in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament.

The teams traveled to the Gregory Street tennis courts at Illinois State University on April 25 to compete in the MVC tournament.

Both teams suffered the same result at the hands of two different teams. ISU handed the men’s squad a 4-0 loss and the women fell victim to a similar 4-0 defeat at the hands of the Southern Illinois Salukis.

The men’s team led at the Nos. 2 and 3 doubles position, when the Redbirds rallied to take the matches, and record the first points of the day for either team.

ISU then clinched the day, when Rolando Torrellas beat the Brave freshman Dan Rodefeld for the fourth and final point.

The men’s team finished with a 3-18 regular season record, and an MVC record of 0-4 under first year Coach Tim Gray.

When the men’s team finished, the women’s team then stepped up to play the Salukis from Southern Illinois in their MVC tournament matchup.

The Salukis won the first point of the day when they won the Nos. 1 and 2 doubles matchup and did not look back from there.

SIU won the day’s match when Polina Dozortseva defeated senior Sarah Rodefeld in the fourth spot in singles.

The women’s team finished with a 4-17 record and a 0-6 MVC record under Coach Matt Tyler, who also completed his first year as head coach for the women’s team.
