Five songs to erase your summertime sadness

Summer is just around the corner, and although the warm air is enough to make us red in the face, the season has a tendency to make people feel as blue as the skies above them. Whether it’s because you’re graduating, or you don’t have a “bae” to relax on the beach with, or even because your daddy took your T-Bird away, the next three and a half months can be a total bummer for some.

If you’re looking for a few tracks to help wash away those feelings and allow you to embrace the summertime vibe, consider adding these choice selections to your playlist.

“Feel It All Around” – Washed Out: The title doesn’t lie; you’ll definitely be feeling it all around whenever this tune plays. The undeniably breezy flow of its sound and vocals are comparable to the soothingly soft crescendo of an ocean tide.

“At The River” – Groove Armada: With the sounds of a mellow trombone punctuating a hauntingly relaxing sample of an old Patti Page song, this track has the ability to instantly transport you from your familiar settings to a landscape of “sand dunes, salty air and quaint little villages here and there.”

“Summertime” – DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince: Hate on Big Willie Style’s bubblegum rapping all you want, but you can’t deny the man’s storytelling abilities. His smooth rhythm and descriptive lyrics easily paint a vivid picture of classic summer staples like family reunions and long days at the park.

“Surf Rider” – The Lively Ones: Nothing says summer quite like a good old-fashioned surf guitar riff. This tubular title may not only inspire you to grab your boogie board and hang ten, but it could call for a viewing of “Pulp Fiction” due to its usage in the movie’s last scene. Dick Dale’s “Misirlou,” arguably the most iconic song on the soundtrack for “Pulp Fiction,” is also a solid choice if you’re into surf rock.

“V. 3005 (Beach Picnic Version)” – Childish Gambino: Significantly slower and more soulful than his original “Because The Internet” single, this remix drops Gambino’s clever wordplay and replaces it with the idyllic sounds of a beach: crashing waves, the cawing of seagulls and lively chatter among beachgoers. It may be minimalist in production, but it provides a maximum amount of good vibrations.
