Last week, senior psychology major and Kappa Delta-Eta Beta member Brianna Blackshire was selected as one of 13 Leadership Development Consultants (LDC) for Kappa Delta Sorority Headquarters.
Blackshire went through three rounds of interviews, which included a presentation, a case study and an interview with Kappa Delta’s National Council.
“When the National President calledmetotellmeIgotit,Iwas so shocked that I hung up on her and called my mom,” Blackshire said. “I wasn’t expecting to get the position at all. It still hasn’t processed that this is what I’ll be doing after graduation.”
Kappa Delta’s LDC program selects 13 women from Kappa Delta chapters nationwide to dedi- cate a year to leadership develop- ment, recruitment preparation and officer training in various Kappa Delta chapters. Blackshire said it’s all about helping chapters get to that next level.
“We visit about 22 chapters in our year as an LDC to assess oppor- tunities for improvement and then strategize with the chapters on how to get better,” Blackshire said.
In June, Blackshire will move to Memphis, Tenn. where Kappa Delta Sorority Headquarters is located to participate in one month of training and preparation for the position.
“All of my experiences with Kappa Delta, starting with vice president of membership, have helped me discover my passion,” Blackshire said.
At Bradley’s Kappa Delta-Eta Beta chapter, Blackshire has served as president (2013), vice president of membership (2012) and assistant recruitment (2011) as well as various appointed officer positions throughout her four years in the sorority.
Beyond Kappa Delta, Blackshire has worked as a student admis- sions representative, vice president of the Order of Omega, member- ship manager for Psi Chi psychol- ogy honor society, an executive intern for Target and participated in two labs as a research assistant.
Blackshire said she looks for- ward to LDC and to the contin- ued growth of the mission of the sorority.
“[Kappa Delta] is really aimed at building confidence in women and inspiring them,” Blackshire said.
Blackshire will begin traveling in August 2014 and said she will presumably be focused in recruitment. She will receive her official assignment and area of focus in her June training in Memphis.
“I feel really privileged and honored,” said Blackshire. “I’m just excited to represent Eta Beta and Bradley on a national level.”
