Letter to the Editor: NASCAR intern offers thoughtful gesture

I would like to express my thanks to the eight Bradley University sports communications students who participated as interns in the NASCAR Sprint Cup race in Chicago.  I owe a very special thank you to student Zachary Keesee.  My fifteen year son Chad, who suffers from autism, is a huge NASCAR fan.  We were able to get a few pictures of Chad next to the car when it was on display at Olin Quad.

I asked Zachary if it were possible to get an autograph from the driver of the car, Josh Wise, for my son.  A couple of weeks later, Zachary presented me with an autographed team photo and ball cap he received from Josh.  Chad was in NASCAR heaven!  I think it speaks very highly of Zachary that he would take the time and trouble to perform this act of kindness.

I know this made him the ‘hero of the day’ in Chad’s eyes.  I offer my heart-felt thanks again to Zachary and the rest of the sports communication students.
