Men’s golf wins Beu/Mussatto Invitational, Women prep for WeaverRidge

Bradley’s men’s golf team won ITS second tournament of the year at the Beu/Mussatto Invitational at Western Illinois.

Sophomore Alex Shane carded a 72 Tuesday and was one of three golfers to shoot 74 or better in the final round.  Shane earned his first career top-10 finish in a tie for third with a 224.

“Winning is a result of what we have done leading up to the tournament,” Coach Jeff Roche said.  “This is a nice stepping stone for where we would like to end up.”

The Braves have won their second tournament of the season and first of the spring.  This is the first team at Bradley to win two tournaments in the same season since the 1995-1996 team.  Bradley finished six shots ahead of second-place South Dakota with a 913.

Danny Masrin carded his lowest round of the spring with a 73 in the third round.  Masrin and Kyle Gunther finished one stroke behind Shane and tied for fifth overall with a 225.  Gunther had a second-round score of 72 and finished the third round with a 74 to secure his first top-10 finish of the year.

“[Alex, Danny and Kyle] were able to minimize major problems,” Roche said.

Junior Seth Trolia scored a 72 in the first round that help set the tone for the Braves.  Trolia would finish in a tie for 44 with a 242 score. Senior Daniel Young finished in a tie for 54 with a 246, just four strokes behind Trolia.

“We maximized what we had to work with,” Roche said of the team’s overall performance.

Roche and women’s Coach Mary Swanson stated the teams know Weaver Ridge well, which gives them an advantage on their opponents this weekend.  Bradley’s golf teams will host the Bradley Invitational at Weaver Ridge Golf Club April 5 and 6. Tee times are both at 8:30 a.m.
