New greek leaders installed

Bradley’s sorority and fraternity Panhellenic Council [PHC] and Interfraternity Council [IFC] terms have come to an end, and their successors are set to be installed January 2014.

The new PHC executive board was announced Nov. 24, while the new IFC executive board was announced Dec. 5. This year’s new PHC President, junior and Gamma Phi Beta member Liz Steinhaus and IFC’s new president, junior and Delta Upsilon member Travis Cazel, will take office early next semester.

Steinhaus will be taking over for current PHC president, junior and Sigma Delta Tau member Ellie Silver. Cazel will be taking over for current IFC president, senior and Phi Kappa Tau member Alex Kaputska.

Both Steinhaus and Cazel expressed their excitement to take on their new positions and bring a great deal of experience with them.

Steinhaus is Gamma Phi Beta’s president and has spent the last year directing her chapter. She said that position helped shape her into who she is today and who she plans to be for all the women of PHC.

“I realize how important effective communication is, along with mentoring others to become leaders in the community,” she said. “I have learned that the actions you take to reach goals can be a better learning experience than meeting the actual goal.”

Steinhaus said she is extremely enthusiastic about working with all seven sororities, and she looks forward to working not only with IFC and NPHC but those beyond the greek community as well.

“I want everyone to be happy with the Panhellenic community at Bradley,” she said. “I want everyone to know that if they see something that could use some extra attention, they should come talk to me about it. I think we all can contribute something towards the success of our community.”

Like Steinhaus, IFC’s new president has past experience, as he was IFC’s Risk Management Chairman in addition to Delta Upsilon’s Risk Management Chairman.

Cazel said he has three main focuses to keep the ball rolling in the right direction.

“[I want to] bring houses together, update the IFC constitution, [and] create more opportunities for greek life to grow, including restructuring spring recruitment for IFC,” he said.

Cazel said he is thankful for the opportunity to serve the IFC community, and that his objective is to promote what it truly means to be a unified, greek community.

“[I plan to better greek unity] through more all Greek events that bring us together and celebrating our community by putting a stop to malicious rivalries and bringing them back to the friendly rivalries of past,” he said.
