After eight years on the Hilltop, University President Joanne Glasser announced Jan. 22 she will retire at the end of the spring semester on May 31.

“This difficult decision comes with many mixed feelings predicated upon my love of the institution, students, faculty, staff, alumni and the Peoria community which has been my home for the last eight years,” she said. “But, I believe it is time for a leadership change to allow fresh eyes and new ideas to continue the excellent momentum of our institution,” Glasser said in an email to the campus community.

Glasser was appointed as the tenth president of Bradley University in 2007, becoming the first female president since Lydia Moss Bradley founded the school in 1897.

A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Glasser first entered higher education as an undergraduate student at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

After receiving her degree in political science, she went on to law school at the University of Maryland to receive her juris doctorate.

Various jobs found Glasser before her arrival at Bradley, including roles as an attorney and labor commissioner for Baltimore County government, chief advancement officer at Towson University and president of Eastern Kentucky University.

She said she will miss the campus and Peoria communities and is thankful for their love and support.

“It has been an honor, privilege and joy to have had the opportunity to serve as the 10th President of Bradley University,” she said.
