Student Senate’s first general assembly meeting of the academic year on Monday featured many empty chairs, but that did not stop the student representative body from focusing on the year ahead.
As of Tuesday, approximately 20 of the 45 Senate seats remained open. Secretary of the Assembly Jonathan Teich said there has been a lot of interest in the positions since elections were completed, and he is currently working to fill the seats.
“I think many are not filled because students are still not sure about what the semester time commitment will be like,” Teich said. “Students are starting to figure it out, and we will have them filled within the next month.”
Even with empty chairs, Senate got to work by explaining some their goals for the year and addressing student concerns.
President Zack Shaw said some of Senate’s goals includes offering self-defense courses, continuing library renovations and improving student health and wellness programs and initiatives.
Emily Corona, vice president of campus affairs, addressed a student question regarding swiping a student’s card for meals for other students. She said that students may not use their meals for other students, but students can use dining dollars for other students.
Gayle Hanson, interim dining services director, also briefly spoke to Senate at the beginning of their meeting, indicating the importance of communication and feedback as Bradley has adopted a revised meal plan.

General Assembly meetings are open to the public and take place every Monday at 5 p.m. in the Garrett Center.
