Shaq Shoes
BY JAYLYN COOK

Ever since Michael Jordan signed his then unprecedented sneaker deal with Nike in 1984, it’s become a relative right-of-passage for the top NBA stars to follow suit at some point during their careers. However, not every pair of footwear a player lends his name to are as stylish or high-quality as Air Jordan’s.

Case in point: Shaquille O’Neal teamed with Reebok (big mistake) to create a pair of basketball sneakers that were so ugly and unsightly, staring at them for too long is basically the same as looking at the Ark of the Covenant after it’s been opened.

It’s no secret that Shaq has questionable taste when it comes to his endorsements – just look at “Kazaam,” “Steel,” “Shaq Fu” and his rap album “Shaq Diesel.” Those missteps, however, pale in comparison to those oversized, black-and-white monstrosities he swindled the American public to put on their feet for the whole world to point and laugh at.

Seriously, two painted cinder blocks would have been a more appealing option than those things.

Shaq may be long retired, but you can still find a pair of his shoes at your local Payless store. I don’t exactly know why you’d want to do a thing like that, but if you do, I promise I’ll only ask “What are those?” seven days a week.

Disney Channel Halloween movies
BY LISA STEMMONS

We’re well into October, which means Disney Channel’s daily airings of Halloween movies are underway. Some of Disney Channel’s best movies are indisputably its collection of Halloween flicks. If you didn’t tune in to “Hauntober Fest” as a kid, you were missing out.

It churned out several downright classics, equally as entertaining as the more mature horror films of today. If you choose “Paranormal Activity” over “Halloweentown,” you may want to consider a psychological examination.

Other favorites include “Twitches,” “Mostly Ghostly,” “Mom’s Got a Date With a Vampire,” “Phantom of the Megaplex,” “Under Wraps” and “Don’t Look Under the Bed.”

Disney Channel now refers to it as “Monstober,” and it features all of the channel’s current shows doing Halloween-themed crossovers. Unless you enjoy letting down the remainder of childhood left in you, I would avoid watching any of the new series’.

Get into the Halloween spirit and nurture your little ol’ nostalgic heart all at once by giving Disney Channel another whirl for old times sake this October. I’m not saying you won’t regret it, but muting the commercials is also highly recommended.
