Director of Student Activities Michelle Whited said this is the highest number of Student Body Officers Student Senate has seen since 2001 when 13 candidates ran for positions. Of the six presidential candidates, four are campaigning with a full [...]

The Activities Council of Bradley University made a quick comeback after the headlining performer, LMFAO’s DJ Redfoo, cancelled his April 23 performance. Still looking to delivering a party feel, Girl Talk, a DJ, will be performing at the Spring Concert on April 24 along with opening acts Breathe Carolina and The Ready Set. “Finding a replacement act was not nearly as difficult as even I anticipated,” said Director of Student Activities Michelle Whited. “April is such a big touring month, especially on college campuses. But [...]

MAP grant funds for 2012-2013 depleted early

The Illinois Monetary Award Program grant for the 2012-2013 school year has already been depleted, the Chicago Tribune reported Wednesday. But the majority of Bradley students eligible for the grant applied in time to get a cut of the funds, Executive Director of Financial Assistance David Pardieck said. According to the article, funds ran out by Mar. 13. “We pretty much anticipated this,” Pardieck said. “There hasn’t been an increase in funds available, but demand has gone up.” Though approximately 140,000 Illinois students are estimated [...]

Preliminary recruitment numbers on par with goal

With the May 1 enrollement deadline approaching, recruitment outlook is keeping up with the university’s goal. “We are on target to meet or exceed our three-year average of approximately 1,080 students,” Susan Andrews, Associate Vice President for Marketing said. A new marketing strategy to draw in potential students may be responsible for the increased interest, she said. To get the word out about Bradley, there has been stronger use of the various media outlets. Andrews said using media would help prospective students see a clearer [...]

Styrofoam replaced by clamshells in student center cafeteria

Reusable to-go containers will soon be available in more than just the dormitory cafeterias. Now the student center dining room will also be a part of the program. “We want to start this after Spring Break so we have a plan in place for picking up the used containers,” said Ron Gibson, Director of Food Services. Students can use their reusable to-go containers, or clamshells, in the student center dining room, but the system of returning one and getting another or a token is not [...]

Westlake design rooted in fate of ninety-year-old tree

The trees scattered throughout Bradley’s campus, some old enough to have seen the birth of the university, are just as rooted in Bradley’s history as Lydia Moss Bradley herself. One tree in particular has loomed over Bradley Hall and Westlake Hall for nearly a century. That tree, a white oak, was in the way of the expanded Westlake Hall construction. But when the time came to remove the tree, the blueprints were instead tweaked to include curved walls that would surround the tree. “As the [...]

Retention rate remains up to university standards

The mid-year retention rate indicates that a little more than 96 percent of this year’s freshman class returned for their second semester. “These numbers correspond with a very objective picture and result of the education and environment that we provide for our students,” said Vice President of Student Affairs Alan Galsky. The mid-year retention rate has decreased from last year’s rate of 97 percent, one of the highest rates Bradley has seen since the university began collecting data in 2001. “Last year, 24 students [did [...]
