Geisert cafeteria will begin renovation during Winter Break to expand and increase accommodation.
“The first phase will begin in mid December,” Director of Dining Services Ron Gibson said. “This will be outside and not affect the food service whatsoever.”
Gibson said as of now, the service at Geisert will continue without interruption or inconvenience to students.
The renovation will include doubled seating space, new serving lines and bathrooms, creating a much more efficient dining hall, said Gibson.
Students said they agree an expansion is greatly needed to accommodate the student body.
“Renovation is very exciting because every meal at Geisert is always so crammed making it difficult to find seating,” freshman psychology major Melissa Kriauciunas said.
The renovation is expected to be completed at the beginning of the next fall term.
“The goal and deadline is the first week in August of 2011 so that we are ready to service the incoming students,” Gibson said.
The completed renovation will include many benefits.
“Kosher kitchen, double the seating capacity, state-of-the-art serving lines which will include a space or food line for healthy food options available at each meal, state-of-the-art kitchen facility, more cooler and freezer space, display cooking area, new public bathrooms and a new system for entering the facility (to make things faster and more efficient),” Gibson said.
Kriauciunas said she is interested to see the renovations.
“I am curious to see what kinds of new options and changes there will be,” she said. “It will hopefully make eating at Geisert an even better experience.”
