Silver Screen Sunday: Thanksgiving break must-see movies

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and we have a lot to be thankful for. That includes the large feast of films coming out in theaters. While you’ve already seen “Skyfall” or “Wreck-It Ralph,” or at least intend to, here are some films that may also be worth your precious time when you’re not gobbling on turkey.

Red Dawn- Remember that cheesy ’80s action flick about high schoolers forming a guerilla group to stop invading Soviets? Well it’s getting the remake treatment, only now it’s not Soviets but Koreans! Oh, and Thor, Peeta and Drake Bell’s annoying brother are in it. Hooray for America!

Rise of the Guardians– So what if Santa Clause, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, Jack Frost and the Sandman were an “Avenger”-esque team of superheroes who unite to save the world from the Boogeyman? That’s basically what we got here. Dreamworks has had a good track record lately with “Kung Fu Panda” and “How to Train Your Dragon,” so we could be in for a treat here.

Lincoln– Steven Spielberg. Daniel Day Lewis as Abraham Lincoln. No vampires. ‘Nuff said.

Life of Pi– A boy and a tiger are left adrift at sea after a violent storm, and are forced to work together to survive. Yes, it sounds corny, but the trailers make it out to be a visual masterpiece. This could end up being the breakout hit of Thanksgiving weekend.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part II– Bad news, Twilight fans. The series is coming to an end. Good news for everyone else: the series is coming to an end. Love it or hate it, this is the end of an era, so prepare accordingly. Be ready for the fangirl rage at the loss of Jacob’s abs.
