New site helps you you groove while you move

This certainly isn’t your Mom’s Workin’ Out to the Oldies Mix.

RunHundred.com has found a way to keep gym rats from hearing the same old songs while hitting the gym.

“I am in the gym at least every other day, I would much rather be listening to upbeat tracks on my Zune, than be watching ‘All My Children’ or ‘Maury’ finding out who the baby’s daddy is,” freshman education major Carly Capadona said. “Listening to music helps me get into the work out and make the best of it.”

The site is designed to collect and compile new music as it comes out from range of genres. Users are then able to listen to samples of each song and vote on whether they would work out to that specific song. The site displays them in a way users can sort through the various suitable workout songs, sorted by BPM (beats per minute), genre, or decade.

“I found out about this site a couple weeks ago, since then I have made myself a specific play list to listen to while I am working out,” freshman advertising major Kathryn Lyne said. “I find myself checking it every couple of days to see if they have put any new tracks up.”

All of the songs listed on the Web site are that of a virtually upbeat tempo, ranging from 125-145 BPM, or beat they have been remixed and altered to fit the criteria.

Utilizing the voter input, the site has assembled a list of last year’s top 10 workout songs. The site puts emphasis in incorporating popular songs as well as songs that don’t make it on to the top 40 stations.

Songs on the list ranged from  Lady GaGa’s “Poker Face” (Space Cowboy Remix) and The Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling to those a bit less popular such as September’s “Cry For You“ (Radio Mix).

“I am always looking for new upbeat songs to take to the gym with me,” freshman journalism major Lauren Parmenter said. “Knowing this Web site exists now will make my workout more enjoyable.”
