Peoria man arrested in off-campus standoff

Peoria Police arrested Eric D. Hollis, 48, of Peoria for home invasion on Wednesday after a three-hour standoff on the 1200 block of North Frink Street, according to Peoria police public information officer Amy Dotson.

Police were called to the residence, located three blocks east and two blocks north of the North University Street and West Main Street intersection, at 2:45 p.m. to check on the welfare of a female.

“Upon officers’ arrival, they learned that the male did a home invasion at the address, meaning he kicked in the door armed with a gun,” Dotson said. “The female was out and the male was believed to still be inside.”

Peoria Police brought negotiators, detectives and other officers to the scene. Officers from Peoria Police Department, Peoria County Sheriff’s Department and Bradley University Police Department were all on scene.

After executing a search warrant on the residence at 6:03 p.m., police entered through the front door of the residence using a shotgun breach, which is special disintegrating rounds, according to Dotson.

Dotson said the subject inside was talked out of the residence peacefully without incident and followed officers’ commands.
