Over a month after their last tournament, Bradley men’s golf hit the greens at Greystone Golf Club in Dickson, Tennessee, tying for 10th place out of the 16 schools competing.
Despite windy conditions, multiple golfers made an early impact, including junior Carter Stevenson, who hit a three-under-par through the first 18 holes. His six-birdie opening round put him in a four-way tie for first place, but his five-over-par second round took him out of the top 20 completely.
The Marquette Heights native ended his 54th hole with a respectable total score of one-under-par, putting him in 14th place and pushing him up nine spots on the leaderboard.
No other Brave finished in the top 50, but junior Brody McCarthy and freshman Joey Cerney closed Tuesday in the top 60, placing 58th and tied for 59th, respectively. McCarthy pulled off a combined three-under-par in the final two rounds after shooting an 80 to start the tournament, while Cerney dropped 11 spots via a four-over-par third round.
Freshman Brogan Smith and sophomore Tanner Leonard finished close behind, tying for 65th place. Smith failed to record any birdies in the first round, but capped the tournament off with a solid two-under-par score.
Meanwhile, Leonard, who was registered individually, finished the front half of the course with a score of two-over-par or under every round, but had a few rough patches in the back half, ultimately dropping his score to 230.
Rounding out the Bradley lineup was junior Quinn Cox, whose 18-over-par score put him in 77th out of the 92 golfers competing. The Braves’ team score of 895 tied with Nicholls for 10th place, 46 strokes behind first-place Jacksonville State.
With two meets left to go until the Missouri Valley Conference championship, Bradley returns to action on Apr. 6-7, traveling to Paducah, Kentucky, to participate in Murray State’s Racer Intercollegiate.
