Season preview: Women’s golf looks forward to spring campaign

The Bradley women’s golf team is beginning its spring season with high hopes. The team recently made the trip to Lake Oconee, Georgia to play in the Lake Oconee Invitational where they finished 16th out of 17 schools.

There are six returning Braves from last season who competed for a fourth place finish in the Missouri Valley Conference Championship. After the championship, junior Taylor Ledwein was named to the MVC all-conference team, along with senior Frankie Saban.

“A big part of playing in various conditions is focusing on things we can control,” Ledwein said. “Our attitudes and mental states are huge on the course, so as long as we can keep these positive we have the skill to perform well.”

Interim head coach Grant Escue is looking forward to see the upperclassmen share their expertise with the rest of the team and being able to compete this year.

“During the Missouri Valley Conference Preview in the fall, we finished second,” Escue said. “We kept very detailed statistics concerning how we played each hole during the conference preview. We will use the spring to build strategies for playing each more effectively.”

The team sports three new freshmen this year whom Escue is transitioning from playing high school golf to collegiate golf competition.

“My goal is for our freshmen to get acclimated to college golf and help the team achieve the goal of winning a conference championship,” Escue said.

Junior Megan Medinger has set goals for both herself and the team as she begins her third spring season.

“My personal goals for the season are to keep improving each day and each round,” Medinger said. “My goal for the team is to have each person work hard every day and keep improving everyday so we can be our strongest when conference finally gets here in April.”

Peoria will have the chance to see the Braves compete March 30-31 at WeaverRidge Golf Club when Bradley hosts the Bradley Spring Invitational. The participating teams have not been named yet.

The team travels to Rio Grande, Arizona this weekend to compete in the Rio Grande Invitational.
