The leaves are starting to fall, the weather starting to change and autumn is just about here. If you’re ready to kiss summer goodbye, the Voice has you covered with events to celebrate the fall.
In case you’re missing the back-to-school excitement fall brought in your younger days, the Bradley Theater Department is here to take you back. Their presentation of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee opens on Thursday. The play centers around six young people who dream of glory, acceptance, love and parental approval—all treasures that come along with the winner’s trip to Washington D.C. and the national spelling bee.
Be sure to visit the Morton Pumpkin Festival this weekend to celebrate the best flavor of fall. The food is the highlight, with everything from pumpkin ice cream to pumpkin chili and pumpkin beer. The doughnuts are a must-have and the pumpkin pasta salad is a great surprise, even though it sounds odd. Be sure to try any and everything pumpkin, because Morton (home of Libby’s) has pumpkin recipes down to a science. The festival also has carnival games and rides, a craft fair and live music. The fair runs through Saturday.
