New shuttle service on campus offers more destinations

Students now have one more option for off-campus bus transportation than the Peoria Charter bus service. Lincolnland Express (LEX) shuttle service added the Michel Student Center to its pick-up and drop-off locations. “The owner [Bob Frazier] has been wanting to [add service to Bradley] for a long time, we just had to work it into our current routes,” Head of Reservations at LEX Trinity Brock said. Other destinations include downtown Chicago, Chicago O’Hare Airport, Midway Airport, Bloomington, Springfield, Carbondale and Indianapolis. They offer service to [...]

Ambassadors compile bucket list tradition

Ambassadors compile bucket list tradition

What do you want to do before you die? It’s a question that leaves some quivering in fear and others performing life-altering triumphs. The Bradley Ambassadors are composing a hybrid bucket list, attempting to address the same question but to a lesser extreme: what do you want to do before you leave Bradley? Consisting of elements of scrapbooks, scavenger hunts and yearbooks, the ambassadors are encouraging students from all grade levels to get involved in a variety of different traditions before their time at Bradley [...]

Girl Talk ticket sales low, ACBU remains optimisitic

Girl Talk ticket sales low, ACBU remains optimisitic

It has been nearly two weeks since tickets for the Bradley University Student Activities Spring Concert featuring Girl Talk,  Breathe Carolina and The Ready Set went on sale to students, and sales are not as strong as past shows. As of 5 p.m. Thursday, only 490 tickets total had been sold, 30 of them to the public. In comparison, 1,100 tickets were sold on the first day for the Jason Derulo and Mike Posner concert last spring. In one day Taking Back Sunday sold 200 [...]

Garrett Center policy change secures students’ wallets

The Garrett Cultural Center policy requiring student groups to pay for additional event security will now be paid for by the university. “We heard from the students that they’d greatly appreciate if the university would not charge them for additional police security,” said Vice President for Student Affairs Alan Galsky.  “We discussed that with the President’s Cabinet and decided it’d be a good thing if we didn’t charge students for on-campus activities.” The Garrett Cultural Center is a space often used by multicultural groups for [...]

Secondary education majors are history following curriculum change

A curriculum change for social studies and history secondary education majors was approved by the faculty senate last Thursday evening. A major in history secondary education will no longer be available. “We are combining the best of both programs,” said Dean Cantu, chair of the teacher education department. “We are taking the breadth of preparation from the social studies program and combining it with the depth of preparation in the history program.” The change will affect incoming freshmen, who will not have the option to [...]

Garrett Center policy change a positive decision

Last semester students expressed their unhappiness and frustration toward the party policy of the Garrett Cultural Center. Among the rules and regulations that came along with hosting an event at the center, there are a few specific parts of the policy that seem unfair to students. Specifically that organizations must submit a guest list two days prior to the event and that campus police must not only be present, but the student organization must pay them. The policy, as stated in “Garrett Center policy change [...]

Smith Career Center offers scholarship for unpaid interns

The Smith Career Center benefits students all year long by reading resumes, coordinating job fairs and setting up summer internships. Now, the SCC has gone further and created the Internship Fund Award, a scholarship for students with unpaid internships. “We’re very excited to offer this award,” said Dawn Koeltzow, Associate Director of the Springer Center for Excellence in Internships. “This is our pilot year to see how things go.” According to the Internship Fund Award application, its purpose is to “reduce financial barriers which prevent [...]

Main St. boutique to open its doors in June

The lack of retail stores near Bradley’s campus can be frustrating for students who don’t have a car. But that is soon to change. A new boutique, called Random, will open its doors this summer beneath Main Street Commons. Random carries vintage-style clothing for reasonable prices. In addition, home ware and supplies for apartment living will also be sold, something Main Street Commons General Manager Greg Colwell said will be beneficial to Bradley students. “It’s similar to an Urban Outfitters,” he said. “The apartment ware [...]

Braves struggle early in MVC play

Braves struggle early in MVC play

While the Bradley baseball team ended last week on a high note, a four-game losing streak preceding a victory marked some of the inconsistencies the team has dealt with all season long. “I’d say a big thing is consistency,” said junior relief pitcher Patrick Flanagan. “We’ll have games were we’ll go out and look like a [Missouri Valley Conference] contender, and other times we’ll go out and struggle all the way around. I think if we can have some consistency from game to game then [...]

National Volunteer Week will celebrate student service

April is just around the corner, bringing with it National Volunteer Week, from April 15 to 21, an event to recognize and celebrate all the service work Bradley students have done over the past year. “National Volunteer Week is an opportunity for people around the country to become inspired and engaged in giving back to their communities,” said Katie McGinn, Director of the Lewis J. Burger Center for Leadership and Public Service. “To me, National Volunteer Week is a call to action – a reminder [...]
