For both returning and new students, it is important to be knowledgeable about campus safety and the security measures the Bradley University Police Department (BUPD) has in place. Here are two forms of alerts the BUPD created to keep campus in the loop when emergencies occur:
Safety Alert
This service, which is issued by BUPD Chief of Police Brian Joschko and sent through texts, the hotline (677-4000), email and posted on the BUPD homepage, aims to
•Notify students, faculty and staff about incidents that have occurred and continue to threaten the campus community.
•Summarize the known facts of the crime, including the nature and location of the crime, the degree of continuing danger to the campus community and the possible risk of compromising law enforcement efforts.
•Inform students, falculty and staff of the crime, and provide general safety tips.
foreWarn alert
The foreWarn alert is an emergency notification, which is also sent by Joschko through texts, the telephone hotline at (309)-677-4000, email, voicemail service, public address announcements and Bradley’s homepage, that
•Informs students of a specific emergency or dangerous situation involving an immediate threat to the health or safety of students or employees that is occurring on campus.
•Provides instructions for specific emergency action, such as evacuate, take shelter, shelter-in-place or lock down.
•Is restricted to life-threatening events or severe weather.
The BUPD will send alerts for emergencies occurring on campus and throughout the BUPD patrol area, if the incident meets the alert criteria.
