Dining Dollars an option for donations

Want to help with disaster relief, but don’t have a car? No problem.

Students can help with the tornado relief via their Dining Dollars right here on campus.

University Spokesperson Renee Charles said students can tell campus cashiers they want to donate and the amount to donate, and the money will be transferred from their Dining Dollars account. Students can donate in $5 increments up to $25 for supplies.

Charles said students have asked for as many ways possible to contribute to the cause and specifically requested this Dining Dollars donation system.

“It is a one-time special circumstance situation that the university has implemented,” she said. “This is a national catastrophe right in our backyard, so we are doing all we can to assist.”

Charles said all registers at all dining facilities are equipped to accept donations. The initiative will continue through the end of the 2013 fall semester.

Charles said the limit was set at $25 for a reason.

“We know our students are caring and thoughtful, and they want to help the victims of the storms, but it’s important that they use the Dining Dollars account for what it’s intended for, which is meals,” Charles said.
