The role of vice president includes a lot of behind-the-scenes work, combining a drive to get things done with an ability to run a Senate meeting smoothly. We think the best candidates for the job is purple ticket candidate freshman Russell Howland.
Howland, though young, has a drive to get things done. He has been an active member of Senate, proposing resolutions and standing out from others in the room. Although his opinions have not always been the strongest, he has taken an initiative to voice them. Beyond that, he seems to know the role a vice president should play well, and we don’t doubt that he could keep Senate meetings on track.
The best vice presidential candidates are the ones who manage as well as fostering ideas, and Howland would do just that. In the interview he mentioned that senators should be held accountable for communicating with their constituents and ensuring that there was business to discuss at every meeting, which are cornerstones of the position.
Howland was passionate and well-informed about what he wanted to pursue. He still has plenty to learn simply because he has only been on campus for one year, but he has already been a more active participant in Senate than half the people who have been involved for four years. He is endorsed.
