Professor urges release of coach search finances

To the Scout Editor:

Last week’s Scout joined other newspapers in listing the money reportedly spent in hiring Geno Ford as Bradley’s men’s basketball coach: $25,000 for the search company; an undetermined amount for buying out Jim Les’s contract; $300,00 per year for four years in the buyout of Geno Ford’s Kent State contract; $700,000 per year salary plus up to $200,000 per year in annual incentives.

I have twice requested a verification of these amounts by University President Joanne Glasser.

She has responded that some news reports distort or misrepresent the facts, but she has declined to say what those facts are.

To determine if such funding of a basketball coach supports the university’s academic goals, the entire university community has a right to know at least the range of expenses involved and the source of the funds.

I urge President Glasser to speak in some detail to both the University Senate and the Student Senate about these expenditures.
