Senior Column: Remembering college (sort of)

I’d like to preface this by saying that I am not the best writer in the world by any means, but I’ll do my best. If it gets boring and you stop reading, I won’t be offended because I don’t know how far I’d make it through this either. This is a short summary of my story here at Bradley– or at least some of it. My freshman year was three concussions (I think) and many beers ago, which will make it difficult for me to recall everything.

I would best describe my time on the Hilltop as an adventure, and those who know me well would probably agree with that statement. From the classroom to the ice rink, every day was something to look forward to. I’ve had my fair share of challenges, and hopefully they’ve prepared me for the real world. Time will tell, but I feel the future is bright. Civil engineering was a great challenge, and I know that I chose the right career path for me.

Club hockey took up a great portion of my time here. Being able to continue playing competitively for another four years was a great experience, and I wouldn’t have given it up for anything. From being on the ice with my teammates, to playing in front of my family and best friends, senior night was something I won’t forget. The people who came out to support the team made home games enjoyable, and it’s definitely something I’ll miss.

Photography has also been a long time passion of mine, and being able to continue that at The Scout has been a joy. The Scout has been a pleasure to work for, and I truly wish I would have started working here right from the beginning of my time at Bradley.

I’ve come to realize that while it’s great to enjoy the things you do, what ultimately makes everything worth it is the people you surround yourself with. With that, I want to take the time to thank some of the people who have made my time here memorable.

To my professors, thank you for all of your guidance and helping me graduate with decent grades. I’m not totally sure if I’m graduating in four years because of your generosity in grading or you just wanting to get rid of me. Regardless, you were all very kind, and for that, I am both grateful and lucky.

To my acquaintances, thank you for acknowledging me around campus. Hopefully by now, at least some of you have realized my actual name isn’t Stan. I’ll probably continue to respond to it for quite some time though.

To my hockey teammates, past and present, thank you for tolerating my unique personality and being my friends, or at least doing a good job of pretending. It was an honor to play beside all of you for four years, and I wouldn’t have wanted it to be with any other group of guys. The hockey world is a small one, and I’m sure at some point our paths will cross again.

To my roommates and close friends, thank you for putting up with me on a daily basis. I wouldn’t have been able to do it, so I’m not sure how you guys have been able to.

To my family, thank you for allowing me to pursue a dream here; it wouldn’t have been possible without everything you’ve done for me.

And finally, thank you to The Scout staff for being a second family to me. In a short time, you guys have made me wish I didn’t have to leave.
