With the 2026 NFL Draft concluded, 257 collegiate players have been selected by NFL teams. These rookies will battle to earn roles on their new squads next season, some having a larger impact than others. Contributors Ian Manley and Cristina Solano discussed which draft pick will be the most impactful to their team.

Mansoor Delane (CB) – Chiefs

By Ian Manley

The Chiefs found themselves in a rare position, picking in the top 10 in a draft they usually are in the back of. Even more rare, they traded up three spots from number nine to number six to select a man they feared may be taken by the Commanders or Saints, who were picking ahead of them.

This was a weaker draft class for corners, but Delane is one of the clear standouts. He’s very likely to see immediate playing time considering the Chiefs just lost two starters at the position, Jalyen Watson and Trent McDuffie, during the offseason.

Delane had a great career at LSU, earning finalist status for the Jim Thorpe Award (given to the nation’s top defensive back) and being selected to the First Team All-SEC. As a shutdown corner, his physicality will help him stand out and truly make a mark on a somewhat depleted Chiefs secondary.

Quarterbacks were scared to throw Delane the ball in college. As he carries that energy into his professional career, the Chiefs only stand to benefit from it.

Dillon Thieneman (S) – Bears

By Cristina Solano

There is no doubt that Dillon Thieneman was one of the best selections a team could make and the Chicago Bears capitalized on this opportunity. Not only was Chicago without safeties, but they selected one of the best in the class for the team and someone who brings elite versatility.

Expecting to play a “rover” position, this would allow him to be a cover specialist and a run defender near the line of scrimmage. Being labeled as “the chameleon,” he can play deep free safety, in the box or at the nickel position. From speed to turnover generation, these are all critical skills that the Bears need.

With a rookie like Thieneman who can cover receivers, support the run and communicate with teammates to keep the defense organized, he won’t need much time to adjust and can make an immediate difference. He fills a major gap and has the talent to elevate the entire unit.
