With temperatures as high as 90 degrees, the heat was on the Bradley men’s golf team at the ANF Fall Classic hosted by the University of Iowa at the Blue Top Ridge golf course as they sought early wins.
It seemed to have gotten to them, as the Braves finished tenth at a 14-team tournament.
The group had a rough time getting to the green, but senior Carter Stevenson finished in an impressive second place. It’s the latest result in one of the most successful golf careers in Bradley’s history. Finishing MVC All-Conference last year, he’s just the second ever Brave to average under 72 strokes for two straight seasons.
The Braves started with an average round one. Most of the team was between one and four-over-par, putting the Braves squarely in the middle of the pack. Stevenson had a strong second round, going six-under-par.
Round three saw the team slide back, as only Stevenson finished under par while the rest of the team trailed far behind. The Braves struggled to put together a team effort, despite Stevenson’s heroics, and their 10th-place finish is probably one they want to forget.
Looking ahead, Bradley hopes to claw back up the standings at the upcoming Wildcat Invitational, hosted by Kansas State University. If they can leave the Colbert Hills golf course with improved results and morale, they will be in a great position to get the season back on track.
Making the ANF Fall Classic an outlier and not the precedent is a top priority.
