Bradley student dies in car crash

Zakery Haubrich, a senior music business major from Quincy, Illinois, was killed in a car accident Monday night on his way home for winter break.

The crash occurred at 4:42 p.m. on Route 24 near Tuscarora Road. According to an article from the Peoria Journal Star, a car driven by Peoria native Rhonda Brooks traveling east on Route 24 drifted across the westbound lanes, up an embankment and back across the westbound lanes, where the head-on collision occurred with Haubrich’s vehicle. Both were pronounced dead at the scene at 6:12 p.m.

Authorities are looking into why Brooks veered out of her lane, according to the PJ Star article.

Haubrich was a member of the Bradley Symphonic Winds as well as Jazz Ensemble. He was also a part of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity, Hilltop Studios and Musicians in Business.

“Our hearts go out to his family and friends,” Interim President Stan Liberty said in an email announcement to campus. “He will be missed by all. Flags on campus will fly at half-staff for three days to honor his memory.”

The email from Liberty said funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
