Fondue you have plans Friday?

Pop-soul music and the scent of chocolate will waft through the Michel Student Center on Feb. 15 at 7 p.m., hopefully renewing that expired Valentine’s Day feeling of love.

Nico Franc, a Los Angeles based independent singer-songwriter, will be visiting campus following a recent sold-out stop at a popular venue in Los Angeles.

Instead of the usual Student Center Ballroom setting, Franc will be singing and playing guitar in the Student Center Atrium.

ACBU music live co-coordinator and sophomore nursing major, Kelly Quirke, said this was to hopefully attract more students to the concert.

“Hopefully, if people come by they will see him and be intrigued,” Quirke said. “If they see him performing, they’ll wonder what’s happening and stop by, sit down.”

“To give the event that comforting feel and being that plenty of students already use the atrium space to relax and study, we hope to combine the two atmospheres,” said Alex Nguyen, ACBU music live co-coordinator and freshman manufacturing major.

Beyond Franc’s talent, students may be captivated by the chocolate fondue at the event.

“When you think of Valentine’s Day, you think of chocolate-covered strawberries,” Quirke said.

The event will have Valentine-themed decorations to match the vibe of the live music. All students are invited to come alone or with just friends.

“We’re not trying to go for a date night theme; we thought about it but then we realized … that kind of limits the amount of people who can come,” Quirke said. “We’re not advertising it as a date night, but the music is date-night music, so if you want to come and get fondue and hang out…”

Besides his Valentine vibed performance at Bradley, Franc is also visiting other colleges in the region as part of his DIY tour.

“He’s young … he can relate to college kids,” Quirke said. “It’s hard to make it as a singer sometimes, so he’s doing a really good job of making it and trying to put his best effort forth towards making his dreams come true.”

Both Quirke and Nguyen said they believe students will connect with Franc because he particularly excels at crowd interaction.

“Nico is an artist that can provide a very comfortable setting for the audience where people can feel closer to him like they actually know him,” Nguyen said. “While there are some great artist out there who seem untouchable, Nico has a very approachable vibe.”
