Police Reports: April 14, 2023

  • At 11:50 p.m. on April 8 at Harper Hall, residential advisers went to a room after hearing loud noises and discovered that three students were listening to music and drinking. After the students refused to show identification, BUPD arrived and asked for their identification, as well as for a PBT (Preliminary Breath Test) to be conducted. The students showed their identification but refused to take the test, except for one who received a 0.00. After being told that the other students would receive a $375 citation if they did not take the test, the students still refused and were cited. The issue was reported to student conduct.
  • At 12:13 a.m. on April 9 at Sigma Alpha Epsilon, an unknown individual blew vape smoke directly into a fire alarm in the house, which resulted in the fire alarm going off. The building was evacuated by the Peoria Fire Department but residents were allowed re-entry shortly afterwards.
  • Around 2:03 a.m. on April 12 at Shell Gas Station on Main St., BUPD spotted a vehicle that they identified as belonging to the suspect from a home invasion. The suspect was approached by BUPD and the Peoria Police Department inside of Shell and resisted arrest. Officers took the suspect to the ground after the suspect was being combative and officers attempted to tase the suspect. The suspect then grabbed the taser and eventually was taken into custody after backup officers were called. A PPD officer obtained minor injuries after being hit in the mouth by the suspect.
  • Around 11:10 p.m. on the 1500 block of W. Callender Avenue, BUPD and Peoria Police Department received multiple calls of three shots fired in the area. Officers talked to surrounding residents but no one saw any suspicious activity and some individuals thought it was fireworks. No evidence was found and no ShotSpotter alerts were activated.
