Police Reports: April 9, 2021

  • On April 2 at approximately 6 p.m., BUPD received a call that an unaffiliated male suspect was rummaging through a dumpster on the 1100 block of N. University St. Officers were able to locate the suspect, who told them that he had a warrant out on him. Officers confirmed this, but since the Peoria County Jail could not accept him due to COVID-19 regulations, he was given a warning and then released.

  • On April 1 at approximately 11:45 a.m., an unknown and unaffiliated male suspect walked into the BP gas station on N. Western Avenue to use the bathroom. When the suspect came out, he proceeded to take a knife from a display counter and pointed it at the clerk in the gas station, claiming that he bought it and that it was defective. An argument ensued and the clerk came out to talk to the suspect when he was shoved and the suspect took out a pistol, but then abruptly left. BUPD searched for the suspect with a canine unit and was able to determine that the suspect had fled westbound. The incident is still under investigation.

  • On April 3, a BUPD patrol officer noticed a shouting argument between two unaffiliated males on the sidewalk in front of Campustown Liquors at approximately 6 p.m. The 27-year-old male suspect went in to buy alcohol, but he was denied because he did not have the proper identification. The suspect then started to argue with the store clerk and was escorted out. Once outside, the suspect tried to punch the clerk but missed. The store clerk then punched the suspect in self-defense. The suspect was taken into custody, was given a notice to appear in court and released.

  • On April 5 at approximately 9:30 p.m., an unaffiliated male was counting money when he was robbed by four unaffiliated male suspects on April 5 behind Squeaky Clean Laundry on N. University Street. The victim told BUPD that he was in Peoria to go to the mall, but stopped at the laundromat to clean his clothes. He told officers he was at the laundromat counting $350 when he saw a man he knew. While they were outside, three other men came up with a handgun and demanded his money and his phone. The victim refused to give up his phone but gave them his money. One of the suspects struck him in the face before fleeing northbound. The suspects were not located and the incident is still under investigation.
