Police Reports: January 28, 2022

  • At midnight on Jan. 26, a student at the Theta Chi Fraternity house reported a call from a “detective” regarding his relationship with a girl who he matched with on a dating app. The student first matched with the girl on Jan. 21 and proceeded to exchange private photos and videos. Later on, he received a call from someone claiming to be a detective, who explained that the girl was underage and tried to commit suicide. The “father” of the girl then spoke with the student and demanded $1,000 from the student to pay for her medical bills. When he tried sending the money, it failed several times before going through. He then received another call from them where they demanded $300 to $400 monthly to pay for the girl’s healing process. The student called Bradley Police and discovered that he was getting scammed.

  • Around 3:21 a.m. on Jan. 21 at Main Street Commons, a possibly intoxicated student used a fire extinguisher in his room. The student returned from a night out and upon entering his apartment, he believed that he smelled burning popcorn. This prompted the student to run into the hall and grab the fire extinguisher before running back to his room and spraying it everywhere. Later, it was discovered that there was no popcorn.

  • At 8 a.m. on Jan. 18, a master set of keys for the entire campus were reported missing. The keys themselves were lost on Jan. 13 but not reported until the 18th. It is suspected that the keys were stolen. As a result, Bradley is considering changing its locks.

  • Around 9:27 a.m. on Jan. 19 in the Business and Engineering Convergence Center, a 16-year-old male was found sitting at a table. The male wandered around the BECC before being found by BUPD. The male had also been reported wandering around Olin Hall and is a suspect for a theft that had occurred there. The male has been banned from campus.
