Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. kicks off philanthropy week with Petals of PoZitivity

Students create bouquets at Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Petals of PoZitivity event.

With midterms approaching, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. invited students on Monday evening to take part in Petals of PoZitivity.

Serving as part of Zeta Phi Beta Inc. Finer Womanhood week, the event was open to all to practice creativity and unwind by making a bouquet using a variety of flowers and decorations.

These bouquets could be made for anyone, whether it be oneself or others.

“Although Finer Womanhood does tailor to women in that aspect, it was really just about anyone [who] could participate in self-love,” Jinaiyah Moore, senior public health major and chapter vice president, said. “Anybody can do something good for themselves and for others.”

The inspiration for Petals of PoZitivity came when President Miracle McClendon attended a recent event that discussed masculinity.

In hosting Petals of PoZitivity, Zeta Phi Beta wanted to see how many men would show up to create a bouquet for someone or just learn how to make one.

“[I suggested] we make this a public event for everyone and see how many guys show up,” McClendon, a senior dietetics major, said. “That was kind of the goal for me, whether they were making it for somebody or just learning how to make it themselves.”

Petals of PoZitivity served as the first event of the Finer Womanhood philanthropy week that was held by Zeta Phi Beta, which is spent observing the sorority’s values.

“Finer Womanhood essentially prioritizes young women of all ages to step into their femininity,” McClendon said. “Whether that be just growing up and getting out into the real world or experiencing motherhood and things like that.”

Zeta Phi Beta strives to serve the communities of Bradley and Peoria as a whole, and information regarding upcoming events can be found on the organization’s Instagram.
