This is it. The 17-game regular season has ended, the first three rounds of the playoffs are over and it is time for the Super Bowl. Super Bowl LIX features the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs in a rematch of Super Bowl LVII.

The last time these teams played in the Super Bowl, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts had one of the best Super Bowl performances ever. It wasn’t enough, though, as the Chiefs narrowly escaped with a 38-35 victory.

Will the Eagles avenge their loss two years ago, or will Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs cement their legacy as one of the greatest dynasties in NFL history? In this week’s one-on-one, sports contributors Jacob Hypke and Steffen White give their picks for the championship.

Kansas City Chiefs

By Jacob Hypke

Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs have made their fifth Super Bowl appearance in the last six years, and if they beat the Eagles, they will be the first team to three-peat in Super Bowl history. The Chiefs will win on Sunday and continue to etch Kansas City in the history books forever. However, winning won’t be easy, especially if Saquon Barkley has something to say about it.

However, I can guarantee that Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo has an iron-clad plan for Barkley. If not, Andy Reid and his coaching staff have been phenomenal at second-half adjustments.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t talk about the intangible skill of the Chiefs’ players. Whether through a wide-open Travis Kelce, a scramble by Mahomes, a quarterback who always finds a way to make this offense churn, or a questionably-timed flag, whenever it has looked gloomy for the Chiefs, in some way, shape or form, there has always been light at the end of the tunnel.

Philadelphia Eagles

The first-ever Super Bowl three-peat will have to wait, because the Philadelphia Eagles will be hoisting the Lombardi Trophy this season. For a surface-level analysis, the Eagles have more top-end talent and depth than the Chiefs.

Coming off a dominant win over the Commanders in the NFC championship game, the Eagles are getting better as the season continues. The team has so many weapons on offense, from stars like Saquon Barkley to more overlooked players like Dallas Goedert.

The Kansas City defense will have their hands full trying to stop it. The Eagles almost won Super Bowl LVII against the Chiefs with their running backs averaging a measly 2.6 yards per carry. With a more balanced offensive attack, the Eagles will overwhelm the Chiefs and bring the title back home to Philly.
