Coming off a tournament where they finished dead last, the Braves were looking for a spark, and they found one.
Bradley left the Diane Thompson Invitational with renewed confidence after a much improved performance. Placing sixth out of the 13 teams, they showed that they can bounce back from a bad tournament, an important quality to have early in the season.
The team came out of the first round squarely in the middle of the pack with solid performances from junior Peyton Coburn, senior Brooke Deebs and freshman Meredith Finger. It was a position they couldn’t get out of.
The team improved in the second round, but it wasn’t enough to overtake any of the teams ahead. Similar to their last tournament, the third round was the Braves’ worst performance, though they didn’t drop any places.
The sixth-place finish was respectable, if not very remarkable. Given their form last time, this performance is an undeniable step in the right direction.
Coburn placed 13th out of 80 golfers and Finger finished 23rd. Both played consistently well throughout the entire tournament, almost mirroring each other. Finger’s freshman status made her outing all the more impressive, showcasing the team’s bright future.
Leaving Iowa with renewed confidence, the Braves will look to continue to build on their season as they prepare to host Bradley’s Coyote Creek Classic.
