Spring weather has not officially sprung, but another year of spring break vacation is in the books.
Whether it’s catching up on schoolwork, a time for rest and relaxation, or a Panama City Beach excursion, there is always a plethora of humorous stories to share when classes reconvene.
This year, The Scout sought out some of this break’s best shenanigans.
Siesta Key, Florida
“We were walking along the street on St. Patrick’s Day when a man wearing only a Speedo and a cowboy hat decided to climb up a light post. I was surprised he even made it up there. Obviously, authorities were called, but it was amusing to watch.”
– Freshman health science major Meghan Taylor
Iceland
“I went to Iceland and got to ride Viking horses through a blizzard. I also spent a day in the Blue Lagoon, a hot spring spa. The best part was seeing the gorgeous Northern Lights dance in the sky (and eating Icelandic yogurt, which is the absolute best).”
– Sophomore advertising and theatre arts double major Sarah Heilbronner
Chicago, Illinois
“My boyfriend, friends and I went to get tacos after we left the bar, and some guy sitting across the restaurant started choking. My friend Alex, who is a nursing major, jumped out of the booth and ran over to the guy [to] give him the Heimlich and pretty much saved his life.”
– Junior public relations major Emily Barack
Havre de Grace, Maryland
“I participated in a 50K in the mountains of Maryland, which involved a course full of snow and mud. However, the best part was a guy in a full Batman costume driving a replica 1966 Batmobile.”
– Sophomore mechanical engineering major Ryan Saloma
Panama City Beach, Florida
“Each day at our resort, there was a pool party with free beer, music, games and competitions. Two of the girls from our trip participated in the arm wrestling contest they held. My friend, Molly, ended up winning the contest and a free trip back to spring break next year! We all had a blast cheering her on as she represented Chicago.”
– Senior advertising major Sydney Yeazel
STLF service trip
“Nine days, six cities, one trip. That only starts to describe my experience on the Students Today Leaders Forever (STLF) Pay-It-Forward Tour. I spent my week volunteering, coordinating 200+ students from five different schools, and even got interviewed by a news station in Atlanta. It was the journey of a lifetime, and I can’t wait to do it again next year!”
– Senior economics major Ryan Gutchewsky
