Golf ends fall season on high note

As the Bradley men and women’s golf teams break from competition for winter, the teams hope their momentum and confidence are in full swing when they tee off the spring season.

The women’s golf team is coming off a sixth place finish at the Pat Bradley Invitational in Lakewood Ranch, FL. Junior Danielle Lemek finished seventh and earned her third top 10 finish of the season.

The fall has been an accomplished one for the women’s team with Lemek winning the Cardinal Cup, a prestigious tournament that featured three NCAA tournament teams from last season. The Braves have amped up the competition from last year and the young team has taken it in stride. Coach Mary Swanson said the team believes they belong in tournaments with tougher competition.

“Fall is a stepping stone to the spring,” Swanson said.

Swanson believes the team had good summers, which has translated into learning and improving during the fall season building confidence heading into spring.

The men’s team won the Butler Invitational in early October, their last tournament before the break between fall and spring. The Braves have also faced tougher competition rather than last year and have stacked up well against other MVC foes.

Freshman Dan Lensing emerged onto the scene with a third-place finish in his first career tournament. Junior transfer Lyle Burns matched a school record with a career-best 66 this fall. Senior Seth Trolia was off to a slow start, but earned two top 10 finished in five tournaments this fall.

“They should be proud of what they did and use it as momentum into spring,” men’s golf coach Jeff Roche said.
