Callie Lack, a senior graphic design major, received recognition as the April member of the month for the American Institute of Graphic Arts in St. Louis at its annual student conference Feb. 21.
Lack joined the association last year by becoming involved with Bradley’s chapter, and she is now the group’s co-president. As a native of the city, Lack has also been an active member with AIGA’s St. Louis chapter.
“It’s an association for anyone who wants to learn more or do more with design,” Lack said. “Bradley’s chapter involves students, but a lot of professionals are part of the St. Louis chapter, so there’s networking involved.”
Not only was Lack recognized as member of the month, but she also was one of two recipients of a $500 design scholarship at the conference.
Lack said she had a feeling she would win the scholarship.
“The main reason I was confident in receiving the scholarship was my essay,” Lack said. “I mentioned that I’m really passionate with design and that I’m also interested in social crime and how we can help communities.”
Lack knew she wanted to be a graphic design major before coming to the Hilltop.
“[Graphic design] started out as a hobby in middle school,” Lack said. “I developed the passion throughout high school, and I discovered I could translate it into a career.”
After completing her time at Bradley, Lack said she wants to expand her graphic design experience at a big agency before working at a smaller agency.
“I want to end up doing my own thing after getting that experience first,” Lack said.
