Students dye hair for breast cancer awareness

In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Student Health Advisory Committee held an event on Olin Quad Wednesday, Oct. 29.

Students could donate $1 and get their hair dyed pink for the day. They could also pick up stickers or door hangers with information about breast cancer and self-examinations.

“[Our goal was] to raise awareness about breast cancer because October is Breast Cancer Awareness month,” SHAC president Kelsie Smith said.

Members of the women’s basketball team showed their support by participating in the event and dyeing streaks of their hair pink.

“I wanted to support a good cause because I have a lot of family who have had breast cancer or have it now,” SHAC member Kim May said.

Smith said she was very happy with the turnout, which was increased from last year.
Distributing awareness and pink hairspray across campus, SHAC encouraged students to inform themselves about breast cancer.
