Gender shaping conversations

Cheryl Cooky, associate professor of American Studies and Women’s, Gender and Sexual Studies at Purdue University, will be presenting from 7-8:30 p.m. on Sept. 23 in the Hartmann Center for the Performing Arts. She will be addressing how gender shapes sports experiences, cultural meanings and organizational structures in sports and other related topics. ‘Peter and the Starcatcher’

The theater department will put on its first production of “Peter and the Starcatcher” at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 26 in the Hartmann Center for the Performing Arts. The prequel to “Peter Pan” tells the origins of Peter, Wendy, Captain Hook and many other characters. Performances will continue to be given until Oct. 6. Ticket prices are $20 for adults. Faculty, staff and senior citizens are $18. Students are $10. To order tickets either call the Box Office at 309-677-2650 or visit the Box Office in Hartmann Center.

Oktoberfest in Peoria

Peoria’s Oktoberfest will take place on the RiverFront from 5-11:30 p.m. on Friday, 12-11:30 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. on Sunday. The event features authentic German food, music, a parade and many other activities. Admission is $7 before 5 p.m., $10 after 5 p.m. and free for ages 12 and under. Concert on the quad

At 4 p.m. today, on the Alumni Quad Bradley Bands such as the Symphonic Winds and Symphonic Band, directed by David Vroman, are putting on a free concert. The Bradley Jazz Ensemble, directed by Todd Kelly, will also be performing.
