Peoria Riverfront Museum partnership offers education and community engagement

The Peoria Riverfront Museum promotes itself as the only museum of its kind in the nation. Dedicated to celebrating all forms of art, science, history and achievement under one roof, it’s exactly the kind of venue a college student should be encouraged to explore.

Bradley’s new partnership with the museum, announced April 8, is doing just that.

According to the announcement, every Bradley student, faculty member and staff member is eligible for a complimentary annual membership.

All you have to do is sign up, and really, why wouldn’t you?

While a museum visit might not sound like everyone’s idea of a great time, this membership offers a refreshing way to step outside the Bradley bubble. In a smaller city like Peoria, college students can benefit from engagement with the broader community, and they should appreciate the opportunity to do so.

Plus, it’s not a venture you have to make alone. The membership includes free admission for a guest as well.

Specifically, it boasts free admission all year long, discounts in the store, special invitations, email updates and discounts on movie showings.

The museum regularly hosts traveling exhibits, such as Disney Fest 2025, which will be on display from May 2 through May 4. Disney Fest will offer an experience beyond what is typically expected at a museum, including screenings of classic Disney films, Disney trivia and book signings and discussions with authors and filmmakers.

Essentially, Bradley is handing out free tickets to fun and educational experiences. As President James Shadid’s first official presidential action at the university, it stands out as a worthwhile use of the university’s resources with the potential for tangible community impact.

This partnership indicates Shadid’s commitment to making connections within the community. Hopefully, we will see similar improvements in the Bradley experience over time.
