Be Brave and tumble

There’s nothing like having fun and going with the flow after adjusting to classes. Being active, stretching or doing a handspring or two may not hurt — at least, that’s what the members of the Tumbling Club think.

The Tumbling Club kicked off an open gym session at Peoria Elite Gymnastics Academy on Sept. 1 for students interested in introducing themselves and displaying their talents on the mat.

The club’s main goal is to allow people with or without tumbling, gymnastics or cheer experience to have a safe and fun space to practice their skills and build confidence while learning.

“I have been a member since my sophomore year,” Sarah Hirsch, junior elementary education major and club president, said. “It means the world to me, as it has allowed me to do what I love and have been passionate about for so long.”

This is Hirsch’s second semester in her executive position, as well as carrying the torch of Sunday evening open gyms. Students from all backgrounds and skill levels are welcome to attend.

Other students find Tumbling Club to be a much-needed release from the exhaustion of work and studies.

“This is an excellent place to get away, practice skills and not think about school,” Jade Nickerson, a junior mechanical engineering major, said. “Tumbling is another way of being active […] I recommend this even if a student has no experience; we are open to teaching you.”The Tumbling Club holds open sessions on Sundays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. For more information, visit the organization’s Instagram.
