Bradley University Police announced TripShot would be replacing TransLoc as the new Safety Cruiser App on campus on Aug. 16.
Tripshot provides drivers with a variety of options, including the student’s current location, a list of all the routes currently in operation and a list of stops near the student’s location. Drivers also see the estimated arrival times for any area the student is trying to reach.
In the week since classes began, students expressed mixed opinions concerning TripShot. Some have found the app helpful, while others have deemed it unreliable.
Senior animation major Camryn Wooten felt frustrated with the new transportation system. She had trouble locating the vehicle and questioned whether the driver was even going in the right direction.
“The driver will cancel your ride if they don’t see you immediately, and a lot of the drivers don’t know where they’re going,” Wooten said.
The driver’s GPS also does not pick up the user’s location until they pick up another student.
On the other hand, some students were satisfied with TripShot.
The app is useful for those who attend late-night events who will otherwise have to walk home. TripShot has been advertised as accommodating students and arriving on time. The app warns students to stay out of bad weather and ride in safety.
Overall, students have encountered issues with TripShot while others are beginning to build trust and reliability with the transportation system.
