When the Valentine’s Day fever hit campus on Thursday, card delivery booths opened in the student center, puppies were brought in to pet, Coffee with a Cop featured heart-shaped donuts and love songs filled the Student Center Atrium.

Sounds of Love was an event held at the student center by Brave Sounds Entertainment Thursday. The afternoon concert featured student musicians ranging from rap to acoustic music.

“I was walking into the student center and I was caught off guard by the sound of the guitar, so I walked into the atrium to watch,” said Pierre Paul, a senior political science major. “Being a musician who sings and plays, I think [Bradley] should definitely have more events like this.”

BSE was created by Bradley music business alum Jacob Vizcarra in 2011. The primary purpose of the organization was to hold concerts for Bradley students.

Now, it is more about focusing on individual artists and being a resource for information, guidance and assistance to help with their music careers. They are still hosting events around campus to showcase the artists’ talents.

BSE President Evan Fear, a junior music business major said that this show would definitely be a success.

“All our performers are talented Bradley students, so many will want to come by to see their friends performing,” Fear said. “Even students who are just passing by will get attracted by the music and would want to hang out and enjoy the snacks laid out while listening to the musicians play.”

Sounds of Love has been an annual event since 2012 and has remained a beloved tradition for Valentine’s Day. Unfortunately, this event could not be held last year, but has been revived this year to follow the same model as the lunchtime concerts that were held by music entertainment students.

“We pride ourselves in being a very open and friendly group,” Fear said.

One of the performers at the Sounds of Love event, Miranda Dianovsky, freshman sociology major, said that the impact of a low-key event could be very powerful.

“From a BSE perspective, this event is working towards our goal of a more interactive and well known organization on campus. Plus, who doesn’t like music on a holiday?” Dianovsky said.

The group meets every Wednesday at 8 p.m. in Constance Hall 113 to get work done to listen to music. Fear said all are welcome.
